At the heart of every efficient solar integration system is the solar charge controller – a specialized device that manages a safe and efficient energy transfer from the solar panels to the vehicle. Sono Solar’s in-house developed solar charge controllers act as the intelligent link between the solar modules and your vehicle’s energy system, whether it’s low-voltage (12V–48V) or high-voltage (400V–800V).
Other charge controllers are developed for stationary use cases like houses. The requirements in automotive applications are totally different. We recognized this challenge and built a solution from the ground up. Our controllers are the result of more than 8 years of dedicated R&D.
Driving leads to constant changes of sun exposure. To optimize solar yield we implemented an ultra-fast maximum power point algorithm to adapt to changes in a fraction of a second. Additionally our solar charge controllers come with a multi-channel architecture with up to 8 channels. If one string gets shaded the other strings are not affected.
By implementing this multi channel architecture we can ensure to stay low voltage on the PV panel side to avoid any potential risk of injury. Additionally we don’t interfere with high voltage automotive regulations which require additional certification and training of workers for installation or maintenance. Our charge controllers are ECE R10 certified and fulfill ECE R100 regulations in case of high voltage output.
We develop our solar charge controllers for both low voltage (12V, 24V, 48V) and high voltage applications (400V to 800V) to meet all your use cases, e.g.:
Our solar charge controllers can be integrated analog or digitally via CAN. The solar charge controllers are designed and tested not only according to photovoltaic but also to automotive standards to be robust and endure the vehicle lifetime.
Sono Solar’s solar charge controllers are designed with multiple end-users in mind, especially those in the automotive, logistics, and municipal transport sectors. If your operations rely on electric commercial vehicles, refrigerated trucks, or buses, our technology is tailored for your needs.
What truly sets us apart is our engineering-first approach. We don’t just sell a product—we collaborate with you to ensure the charge controller integrates with your existing systems. From CAN communication compatibility to voltage-specific tuning, we adapt the technology to your environment.
