The company sets new standards for performance and durability of vehicle integrated solar modules
| MUNICH, April 1st, 2026 – Munich-based Sono Solar, a leading provider of solar solutions for vehicles, is expanding its portfolio with its own line of solar modules. The company has been developing solar solutions for the automotive industry since 2016 and is using its in-depth system expertise to set new standards in terms of the performance and durability of vehicle-integrated solar panels. Following intensive market analysis and qualification, Sono Solar is launching field-proven solar panels perfectly tailored to the requirements of the automotive industry. Sono Solar is thus positioning itself as a reliable module supplier with the highest quality standards and is expanding its claim as a leading OEM system partner for vehicle-integrated photovoltaics in Europe. Validated quality for PV applications in the automotive industry Solar modules on vehicles are constantly exposed to high strains. “To ensure maximum durability, performance and consistently high quality, the team of solar experts at Sono Solar has developed a sophisticated qualification programme that is arguably unique in the industry,” explains Jan Schiermeister, Managing Director and Head of Technology at Sono Solar. The solar panels undergo intensive testing for performance, product safety and reliability, including aging and thermal tests based on actual vehicle conditions, as well as tests for chemical and mechanical resilience, such as vibrations during driving. A total of 30 different manufacturers and 40 module variants were thoroughly tested and evaluated. The aim of this comprehensive study was to select the optimal solar panel and cell technology for vehicle integration. The underlying tests are based on PV and automotive standards, which have been adapted to simulate the real-world conditions of vehicle operation over the product’s lifetime. The tests are carried out both in our own laboratory and in cooperation with accredited testing laboratories. Sono Solar panel line: Maximum performance in long-term operation “Our solar panel line has proven itself in practice and delivers outstanding performance over the long term. We offer a product warranty of up to five years on our panels – significantly longer than the industry-standard two-year warranty on solar panels,” explains Jan Schiermeister. The semi-flexible polymer-based modules are frameless, lightweight, available in various sizes and optimised in terms of their technical specifications for use on the European market. “With our own solar panel line, we are sharpening our profile as an OEM system partner for vehicle-integrated photovoltaics in Europe. We have developed our qualification process for solar modules over many years. This ensures our customers receive state-of-the-art solar module technology, field-proven quality and maximum performance for all their vehicle applications,” said Denis Azhar, Managing Director of Sono Solar. By perfectly matching the modules to its in-house solar charge controllers, Sono Solar offers an integrated system that effectively reduces fleet operating costs, extends battery life and significantly improves the carbon footprint of diesel-powered vehicles such as trucks, buses and vans.
